Upon finding out that Sebastian was a christian, the Roman Emperor Diocletian ordered Sebastian to be tied up an shot full of arrows. He was left for dead, but somehow survived and was nursed back to health by Irene of Rome.
He decided to confront the Emperor, who ordered him to be beaten to death.
